Staff Spotlight: Joan McFadden brings a wealth of experience to HR Team

We happily welcomed Human Resources Assistant Joan McFadden to our Organizational Development team at the beginning of 2019. Joan came to us after a multifaceted career in administration at Wingate Healthcare in Brewster, where she managed numerous HR functions.
In her role at Latham, she is often the point-person for staff (current and former) inquiries. Joan works with managers to ensure job postings are updated internally and online every week; she meets with new hires to help them through the onboarding paperwork and confirms training schedules; processes background checks, coordinates leaves of absences, and much more – all while supporting the HR team.
Joan said she really loves being a part of a team here. “In my previous job in a skilled nursing facility I was a one-person show, doing payroll, benefit enrollment, orientation, FMLA administration… At Latham Centers, I am enjoying being part of the HR Team where responsibilities are well-defined, and weekly meetings promote communication and the feeling that input from all team members counts. One of the things I appreciate at Latham is the visibility and accessibility of upper management.”
She also appreciates the mission-driven work we do here, and how much of a difference our staff makes in improving the lives of those we serve. “At my previous job, most of the residents being cared for were not going to get better. At Latham, our direct support professionals working with students and adult residents have the opportunity to not only provide daily care, education, and supervision – but to help build a meaningful future.”
Joan is looking forward to Latham Centers’ Job Fair on Monday, September 30th. “The recruitment process at Latham strives to really match skills, experience, and interest with the appropriate position,” Joan said. At the Job Fair, Joan and her colleagues will be sharing information about full-time, part-time, and flex-time opportunities at Latham. Career-changers are invited to learn more on September 30th from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at our Campus Expansion site and Training Center at 1439 Main Street, Brewster.
